HOOVER'S HOMETOWN

Herbert Clark Hoover, the 31st President of the United States of America (March 4, 1929 – March 4, 1933), was born in West Branch on August 10, 1874 to Quaker blacksmith Jesse Clark Hoover and his wife, Hulde Minthorn Hoover.


Hoover’s birthplace cottage, burial plot, and Presidential Library-Museum provide a unique and interesting opportunity to explore history in West Branch, Iowa.

HERBERT HOOVER NATIONAL HISTORIC SITE

A landscape of historic buildings, exhibits, and natural areas commemorate the life of Herbert Hoover.

THE HERBERT HOOVER PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY AND MUSEUM

The Museum tells the life and times of Herbert Hoover and also features a large temporary gallery with changing exhibits.

HERITAGE MUSEUM

Founded in 1965, this museum has become a depository of local West Branch history and historical objects.

A MAIN STREET IOWA COMMUNITY

West Branch received its accreditation as a Main Street Community in June 2006 after the Friends of Historic West Branch raised more than $166,000 in pledges from the community to support revitalization and economic development through historic preservation of the community’s downtown district. Since then more than $3,000,000.00 has been invested in West Branch’s historic Main Street District.    


West Branch Community Development Group is one of 55  Main Street Communities in the State of Iowa. We are also proud to be an accredited Main Street American program.
